Help! Help!
Its nice how everyone is talking about ignition and fuel maps. But can someone actually help me locate, find and obtain stock base fuel, stock base timing and stock base fuel and timing correction maps. The reason: I bought an Apexi Power FC ECU, and I've been trying to get my car to run on the Power FC ECU and not the stock ecu, however, every time I try cranking the engine to come on, it comes on and feel like its choking and the RPM doesn't move up to 1000rpm, as well as the stock boost gauge does not go up. Its like this, you start your car, and your car start to warm up and slowly idle after awhile, but I never reach the Idleing because it keeps on choking. So therefore I talked to a few Apexi dealers for instance: Adrenaline Motorsports in Missouri, and Dynamic Motorsports in Cali, whom inform me that I need to obtain the stock base Fuel and Timing along with the Correction maps for Fuel and Timing and input it into the FC Commander hand held to be able to crank up the engine. Now if anyone can help be obtain actual numbers numbers that I can input it in, would really be appreciated, and yes i know i risk the matter of blowing up my motor or killing it, but with guidince would really be nice and help me tune my car right. Thanks! |

I am right where you are right now. I have the SDS computer, and I'm going crazy trying to tune without a dyno.
What I've done, is set the ignition timing to a simple curve - 500 rpm is at the specified idle advance of 15 deg. BTDC. The timing advances slowly as RPMs increase, and maxes out at 32 deg. BTDC @ 6500 RPM. This curve has no load based advance or retard, just a RPM based timing curve. Once that is set, you should increase the fuel output at each RPM range enough to keep it running rich, to be safe. Give it enough fuel for a stable rich idle, and work with your idle valve and/or throttle plate screw to get the airflow just right to keep the idle low and steady. Then you can start running the car down the road, and adjusting the RPM based FUEL map. Again, keep it rich to be safe, but not so rich it dies. Flat road, don't put a whole lot of load on the engine at first. Once you can run the whole RPM range without coughing and sputtering, you've got it good enough. The next thing is to work on LOAD BASED FUEL and LOAD BASED TIMING. It's important to have a decent base timing graph and RPM/fuel graph before the load based stuff. Now you can run the car up a hill at low engine speeds to create certain vacuum conditions, and adjust for best power response. You'll need a good vacuum gauge hooked up for this as well as a wideband a/f gauge, or you won't know what to adjust. Work on one thing at a time. Don't adjust both timing and fuel before another run, because you won't know which had an affect on the performance. If you DO find somewhere to get factory CPU values, LET ME KNOW! I can't find them anywhere, and it WOULD make life a lot easier.
