Default Reliability on a swapped & turboed civ?

ok well ive been thinkin
im not sure i really want to get out a good size loan for another car
so i was just wondering your guys's input on this
if i did a B18C1 swap in my car, then turboed it
how reliable do you think it would be?
the boost would be low of course until it is somewhat built
but i just dont want to be 9-15k in debt
ill be spending like 6-7k probably to get the engine and turbo and all that fun stuff
maybe even more
but it will be one step at a time
and i need it as a daily driver too
so yeah
just let me know

very reliable if done right, theres plenty of guys on here that have done the same work you just outlined and many of them right out of our own shop. 95 percent of it is your tuner. Find a reputable one and you'll be good

well where can i find one?
i know a guy at work that could probably get it tuned for me down in SLC
but the guy will probably charge up the butt for it

i would not recommend "a guy" id find a good honda tuner with HANDS ON experience with Hondata / Krome / Neptune. Looks like you are in Utah, theres a TON of fast honda guys there with lots of experience tuning standalones.

well its not just "a guy"
a kid at my work is good friends with a guy in SLC who has one of the fastest hondas
its a 9.6 second or so hatch
his name is Buck
and he did all the work on the guy at my works car
or i could just buy his car for 9k
its a 00 SI
8k in mods
mostly built
runs low to mid 13's
pretty quick

or would you say i build mine?

build your own is my suggestion. Not to burst your bubble but tuning is the single most important part of your build. Dont skimp on it. find someone that has experience and a dyno and can back up their work. 9.6 is also not very fast for Hondas anymore. was in 98, not in 08

:O what does the fastest honda run then?
and i dont skimp on anything
i tend to do everything the right way...most secure way
and usually ends up to be the most expensive way
so how would i go about finding a tuner?
and a B18C1 will drop right in to my car right? i was going to buy it from hmotorsonline if i do it, if i get the complete change over, that should just be plug and play pretty much right?

a b18c1 will not just bolt in, you will need a few different mounts for this swap, are you concerned about smog / registration? if so you will need even more parts.

For Emissions, you will have to do some homework on that front. I am not familiar with the rules in UT, but in CA you

1. need to swap in a motor thats newer than the car you are swapping into
2. all smog equipment must go motor and swap, EGR valve, and evap assemblies
3. You must run the same year and model ECU from that motor
4. a state ref must inspect it

Thats what you need if you are swapping motors here in CA to drive without getting a ticket. barring all that nonsense though, a b16 or older GSR motor will be cheap and easy to swap into your car. Heres what you need :

Mounts : a combination of stock 99 Si and Integra or Del Sol Vtec Mounts and brackets can be used if a hydraulic B series tranny is used.

ECU : p30 from the 96-97 Del sol Vtec is easiest, only a few of the 99-00 civics need the 99-00 Si ECU. Chipped P28 can be used if a OBDII to OBDI harness is used.

Axles: 90-93 integra axles, 94-up integra axles, 94-97 Del Sol Vtec axles, or 99-00 Civic Si

MISC :
radiator hoses from a del sol or gsr, depending on what motor you are talking about
throttle cable from a 92 gsr

A/C you will need the 96-97 AC bracket.

hope this helps

sounds like an aweful lot of work only to end up with a 13 sec car, for 7 grand you could buy a nice 12 sec mustang and be more reliable then your turbo civic
