Default Help! Turbo Problem...

I just bought this car 2 days ago, its a 1996 Eclipse GSX, all stock. (kind of..)

The guy that sold it told me that the turbo went out, and he "bypassed it".. which I don't think is even possible.

I took a look, and the wastgate actuator is hanging and loose, I can move it with ease, its not attached to anything but the turbo itself where it opens and closes the waste gate (needless to say, I swung it all the way open. and zip tied it to keep it there.)

the car feels sluggish right now, probably because the turbo is doing nothing but blocking exhaust gas's from leaving the engine.

There are a lot of loose wires/oil lines etc.

So of course, I need to put in a new turbo right?!

well I don't know what lines go where and what attaches to what! every thing is just sitting around down there, not attached to anything.

maybe there are schematics somewhere? a picture showing me how the turbo system is setup in this car? I don't know.. maybe you can walk me threw the install?

example, there is a line which I believe is an oil line, its a mettle line like one you would find on a break caliber, with a screw end on it. is it the oil line? what else could it be?

does the turbo for this car use water cooling? do I need to run a line for that?

schematics would help out a lot here.

Here would be my recommendation.

1. hook up a boost controller
2. hook the turbo wastegate swingarm back onto the internal rod. you can buy a C clip from someone or a wrecking yard like M&S ( msrecycling.com ) the c clip is for the internal wastegate arm to the swingarm on the exhaust housing.
3. make sure your oil and water lines are hooked up for your T25.
4. Make sure there are no leaks
5. Make sure you are running stock boost

Let us know what happens

look on ebay for a manufacturer's service manual would be my first suggestion. if nothing i would go with a second rate chiltons type manual from a local parts store. see if you can find images on the net that might help your cause and then put them on a flash drive and print them off with your works ink . then proceed to trouble shooting procedures. i would not drive the car if at all possible.

Look inside the turbo and see if it's dusted. If it has fins missing or a lot of dirt they are probably in the engine by now. Take some pictures if at all possible. I know that isn't that easy while still on the car. I will have my manual some time in the next week I could help you out with that part. Keep me posted.
