I'm getting a 3200 watt 12" subwoofer for my conquest
specs: 2X100 oz magnets dual 4 ohm impedance 23-2000hz frequency response 2-1/2" voice coil I'm looking at amps, and I found some pretty good prices, i was just wondering about how many watts I need. I don't wanna get too many and blow the sub, or too few and under power it... specs for amps (2 channel 1000 watt, 2 channel 1600 watt, 4 channel 1000 watt, 4 channel 1600 watt, and 4 channel 2000 watt) -2 ohm stable, 4 ohm max out -15-30khz response Also, how many extra batteries will I have to run for this amp and sub combo...and can you send a diagram of how to wire the batteries Thanks, my other car has low power sub and amp and didn't need another battery |

is the amp going to run ONLY the sub? no components at all?
and it would help to have a name/model for the sub your getting and your going to need an amp that pushes a LOT of power at 4 ohms which is very very expensive, because you need a true wattage amp like the JL 1000/1 is a true 1000 watter at 1 ohm, 2 ohm, or 4 ohm and at 12 or 14.4 volts it still puts out 1000 watts to push a couple amps that big your going to need a very high output alternator at LEAST 2 batteries, and a couple high ferad caps but again...give me some more specifics on like the model and stuff i dont see why you need anything that big anyway your going to eat your car alive just trying to push it i have 2 JL 12's that are 400 RMS each and a 1000 watt memphis im not pushing them to the full potential because my car simply cant do it ATM but im hitting 144.5 DB right now you do NOT need your car louder than that believe me oh and another q is that 3200 watts for the sub the RMS or peak?

that was peak with the sub, it wasn't a big brand or anything, Pyle. After reading your post I decided to go with different subs, I know where I can get 2 10" rockford fosgate punch subs brand new 500 watts max each, 250 rms each, for a total of $140 (includes shipping) or I could get 2 10" Pioneer Premier subs brand new 1000 watts max each for about $130. I think I'm going to go with the rockford fosgates. The amp I'm looking at is 2000 watts max, which might be too much, but it's a 4-way, so I could probably get away with not bridging and just running 2 channels right? Then that would give options for upgrading other speakers in the car and running those off it. The amp isn't a great brand, Pyramid Arctic. The THD is less than .04%, it says rms is only 75X4 at 4 ohms which sounds like too little for the amp, but might be a good amount for my subs anyway...300 rms amp for 500 rms subs. Would I need an extra battery in my car for that set up?

a good thing about that amp is that it's only 1.96" high and I can get it new for $120. It also has separate controls for channels 1/2 and 3/4. 1/2 has knobs for high pass, low pass, level, switches for crossover mode (hp, lp, full), and bass boost (12, 6, 0)...3/4 has knobs for high pass and level, and a switch for crossover mode (hp, full)

believe me but pushin 2000 watts is kind of a lot although since its a 4 channel it wont be as bad specially if your only runnin 2 of em but to get more potential from your subs, it might be best to bridge them just be very very careful if you do because you might blow the subs and i always recommend not using the same amp to run components and subs just not my thing i have my 1000 class d mono camp runnin my 2 subs then i just have a small 320 watter runnin my components which will get bigger because i need to get new speakers ![]() but if your running it at 4 ohms, then you shouldnt need an extra battery and is that 2000 RMS at 1 ohm? and ad 12v or 14.4v? only reason i see you should need a new battery is if your running 1 ohm stable which you wont 2 ohms you should be ok still as long as its not turned up all the way all the time just see if when you turn it up, if it dims your headlights or not and if you do end up needing more juice its in your best interest to get a new alternator if possible because if your needing more power and your alt cant supply it its going to go to your battery goin "hey, help me here" then the battery will start putting some more power and it drains the actual acid levels in the battery and once you turn it down, your alt will try to charge it but the battery will never be able to fully recharge and if you keep doing that, your level will keep goin down and eventually your battery will be dead but like i said, just turn your car on, turn the headlights on, rev it to about 2k, and turn it up and see if your lights dim

Thanks, I appreciate it. The amp is 2000 max at 4 ohms. The subs are the 2 ohm fosgates. If it dims the lights I might just be able to upgrade the size of the battery along with the alternator, rather than upgrading the alternator and adding a battery, because the battery in the car is tiny. It's about the size of the battery in my riding lawnmower.
Thanks for all of your help. I appreciate it. |

np man, thats why were here!
yeah it would be best to just replace that one then lol get a high performanace one you can buy them from like optima and stuff the red top batteries i think it is they are built for that stuff and can actually fully recharge after being drained but their kinda pricey but well worth it if you need it

k, thanks. The battery in my Fiero is just a die hard weather handler (not too big either), and it's lasted me about 7 years now and still runs my 250 rms, 550max watt amp, lol. I guess it surpassed it's 5 year life expectancy. I can leave it in the car with battery cables still hooked up and it'll last for over 2 years and still start the car.
![]() I'll definately look into the optimas. |

you should check out my page. Tell me what you think of the cars. The black and silver one's for sale, the black one is the car I'm putting the subs in, and the red one is the donor car for the black one. The others are my dad's toys.

Dont get any of the new Rockford Fosgate stuff. Its sucks and is horrible. If your worried about your lights dimming you could always put a capacitor in. Maybe a 2.5 farad cap. Also Optimas are way over priced. Get a Duralast Redtop battery. Its the equivalent of the Optima Redtop but about half the price.
