Default motor for my 97 civic ex

What is the best engine and trany for my 97 civic ex. I was told to go with a b18b or H22 but with the H22 I dont want to setup new shift linkage for my car. If I get a b18b obd2 would it be easy to put in and would it be hard to wire up or is it plug and play. I will take any other suggestions you guys got.

It would be legal my car is obd2a and that is what I want to put in 99-00 is obd2b. If you put a obd1 engine in a obd2 car that is ilegal. But im not 100% sure if that is true in Pa. or not.

For the wireing do I use my stock wireing harness or do I have to use the one for that engine and how about the ecu. That is the only thing I am confuised about.

we should do some research on this stuff.

i remember there was a site that talks about all the swap types. i don't remember it though.

well from what i seen usually they replace the ecu, have a aftermarket one, or a ecu from another car. and they might use...actually they'll probably have a kit to make the harness setup easy.

now lets see. which is a better engine.

all i know is a b series is very good....lol, idk if what i'm say is correct...are they called b series?

You are right it is called a B serise swap. And it is the easyest swap. I thing you use the ECU that the engine swap comes with if thats the route you go. I want to get the whole swap. tranny, ECU, engine, wiring harness, axles, and shift likage. I think it comes with all the motor mounts but you need to get the rear 99 civic si engine mount or tranny mount i dont rember off hand. And im not sure if the axles it comes with will work if not you need 99 si axles. I think the b18b no v-tec is $2200 on H motors. That is want I was looking for because it is sopost to be better to boost.

Your Obd2 Harness Will Work On All Ob2 Motors If Ur Current Motor Isnt Vtec Youll Have To Run A Wire From The Ecu To The Vtec Siloniod, You Also Have To Locate The Vtec Pin On The Ecu To Attach The Wire To It For Properfunction, Now If Ur Current Motor Is Vtech Than Ull Be Ok, As Far As Ecus Go If U Dont Have One To Match The Motor Ur Buying U Can Always Get A After Market Ecu Tuned For That Motor,or Get Ur Current Ecu Chipped, I Run Neptune In My Hatch I Love It, Neptune Gives Me Launch Control I Can Launch At Any Rpm From 3500 To Cam Out, I Recomend A Neptune Tuneed For Ur Motor, U Can Run A Type R Ecu On The Gsr, But A Gsr Is The Way To Go Same Compression As A Type R Only Diffirence Is The Head, And Tranny, The Tranny Is Geared A Little Taller Meaning More Topspeed, Well If U Have Anyother Questions Man Im Happy To Help.

Here's my short list to go with:
1. B18C1
2. B18C5
3. B16A2
4. B16B
5. B18B (boost with a B16 head)
The first two come in OBD2a so they would be the easiest electrical wise.
3-4. Little bit of wiring for the OBD2a to OBD2b purposes.
5. Probably the hardest wiring wise and getting the VTEC to work properly. The B16A2 or B heads flow better for boost. Also remember to use the ECU for the head.
