Default How to build a 450whp Sr20det

So we are building an s13 sr for a customer. Just wanted to share some pics of the engine build.

The customers original engine failed due to a blown HG that induced coolant into the oil and caused a rod bearing failure.

We Started off with a fresh used sr block. After having the block hot tanked, bored, and honed, we went ahead and had the whole rotating assembly balanced. After balancing was finished we assembled the bottom half of the engine.

Cp pistons, Total seal rings, Crower rods, ARP 2000 rod bolts, ARP main bolts, Clevite 77 race bearings, S14 water pump, new oil pump, timing chain, etc.

Here is the bare bottom end.

Next we were ready to install the oil pickup. A major problem with the sr20det oil pickups that is not very well known is that the tube is only tack welded to the flange.

I have seen many sr motors fail because the tack welds will break and drop the tube into the oil pan. A little secret we do here at SDP is to tig weld the tube to the flange, and tig the tube to the pickup. Remember to do this if you ever have your oilpan off.

Next we bolted up the new rear main seal, and resurfaced the face of the oil pickup flange since the heat will bend the metal a little bit.

Then we started to clean all the items we will be reusing on this new motor.
Greddy intake manifold, 740cc injectors, etc

Gt 2871r Turbo

Then we bolted the turbo upto the new tomei manifold.

Bolted up all the acc, and greddy pulleys.

Installed the greddy oilpan

And got all the other goodies ready for installation.

I will update this with more pics including installation and tuning when i receive the rest of the parts.

O we also received our specially ordered Bride racing seat.
