Default little black boxes....government spying?

yup you guessd it...it may not be new...but this is the first time ive herd about it...on the news today they had a cop talk about some ol guy who hit 3 other cars ...and that they learnd he was going 85mph becouse the retrieved his "black box" from his car.......since when did we give up our rites to privacy and let the car manufacturers record all our data every time we drive...when did this go into effect..and how could i have missed it?...to me this is just wrong..i would never give my permission to any agency to record my driving habits....isent this domestic spying?..humm....im wondering in what year did this all start?..any one have any more info?

usually a "black box" referes to video/picture/audio evidence from a plane
never heard of it in a car...

i think it records speed and other statisticks per driveing session ..this includes direction and global position..from what i hear on the news...has me wondering

not really, the manufacturers are puttin in small monitoring deves that record throttle input, mph, rpm, and few other factors and then reports it to the manufacturer when the car is turned in for service and the ecu is diagnosed

yup...BMW started this a while back, along with the self diagnostics at startup..records the last 15 key turns on the vehicle

lol it would be funny to hack it so it says you drove at max rpm for 1,000,000 miles without turning off the key, just to see the look on their face.

The only time data loggers are cool are when you install one yourself but those ones have cool features like lap timers and G meters

some where i hear that onstar was a governmebt test program to do the same thing. dont thing its true but you never know with the government the way it is now.
