Default Help with Cold Air Intake Filter

I bought a Spectre Cold Air Intake filter the dimensions are 4x3 with a 3.5" opening. I have it on the stock air filter pipe. Every time I turn the car off it makes this weird air suction type noise. Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to stop it?

I think that its just the rest of the air that the engine didnt use getting blown out, but Im not sure.

Is the sound you're experiencing the same sound when driving and letting off on the gas? Make sure all clamps are secure and that there isn't any loose connections. Do you have any pics if your install?

Everything is secure and fastened down.

I havent noticed any sound when I let off the gas.

It kind of sounds just like the car when its idling, but at a higher noise level and more deep.

Default it should be normal

most of the cold air intakes sound juss like that. Mine is not turbo but all of the my friends who got cold air sound like that. As soon as u turn off the car it sucks and have a verry high tone of suction of air, also when u turn on the car and its idling when the enjines cold from the mornings, it have a high tone. It should be normal. Hope this helps a lil.

Don't worry, this is completely normal. You are just hearing the air being sucked in. If you don't like this sound, you need to put your stock intake back on

I dont mind it. I was just worried about something being wrong with my engine or the intake.

My guess is that suction noise is dependent on the engine and the size of the filter so it will give my car a unique sound.

Anyways thanks guys.

Is there anyway to quiet it down?

I have one last question. I live in a fairly unpredictable state as far was weather goes (Michigan). Is it necessary to have a bypass valve?

I dont think its possible for the filter to get wet where its located at. I took out the old filter box and left the base in and just mounted it there.

Not even close. A bypass valve goes on the tubing for a cold air intake so if the filter gets wet and starts sucking in water the valve closes off the tubing and air comes through the tiny filters in the sides of the valve.

Is your filter extended into the fender well (like the pic of my engine comp in my profile page) or is it still confined in the engine compartment? If the filter doesn't extend into the well, you won't have any problem with hydrolocking (when water gets into your engine through the intake)...

Even if your filter is inside the fender well, you'd have to drive your car in about 1 foot of water to be hydrolocked... so unless you live in an area where there's 1 foot puddle of water everywhere, and you HAVE to drive into it, you won't need a bypass valve...

bypass valve is usually used with a CAI, its main function is to prevent engine hydrolocking due to water getting in through the intake. Bypass valve is not necessary for FI, to my knowledge, it's not even used in FI system, someone correct me if i'm wrong. Whitedragon has a pretty short but good description of how the BPV works below...

no you want need the bypass valve. very rarely will u suck up any moisture if any at all. use an oil type filter like kn that helps prevent moisture buildup upon statrup
