If the amp is blown, chances are, it probably wont even turn on so just connect power from car battery to amp and ground to chassis under the hood. Dont run it to the back just sit it under the hood and hook it up there. If it does come on and to test whether it has power output or not, just hook it up to a set of speakers that handle similar power to what the amp puts out, turn the gain all the way down (should be a screw or knob on the end of the amp), turn the volume on the dash unit to 3/4 volume then turn the gain up on the amp until it barely starts to distort then turn it back down a bit until distortion is inaudible and let it play for a bit. Turn the volume on the DASH UNIT (not the amp gain, amp gain is NOT volume, just controls how sensitive the amp is to the audio output signal from the dash) up a LITTLE BIT. If nothing goes wrong and the amp doesnt get really really hot, it should be fine, or if you want to be on the safer side, take it a car audio shop and have it bench tested. Try to find one in your area that has been around for awhile since ones that have been in business for awhile tend to know what they are doing. It shouldnt cost much.
