Default My $94.00 for you guys

Alright, I remember when I was 16, I thought it was soooooo cool to have my car sponsored, and when I found this website where you sign up and can be sponsored by Sport Compact Car, I did it, and was sponsored within 48 hours. Sweet huh? They sent me stickers and a bill saying I owed $80 to set up an account and other stuff. I said cool, and never heard from them again. I tried calling and asking for parts, but they never replied. Eventually they went out of business, and I grew up and learned from my mistakes... or so I thought.

I got a phone call 3 days ago from Team Street Car Performance about a sponsorship, with the same kind of BS SCC gave me. I decided to ask a lot of rude questions, incriminating SCC and explaining the bad experience I had. Caitlin, the girl who recruits explained to me that SCP bought out SCC because SCC wasnt doing their job right. They assured me that everything would be 300% better now under new management. Since I have a job, and can spare the $94.00 I would be otherwise probably wasting on food, I forked it up, set up an account, and went on. This is what I have experienced so far:

The website is confusing, but once you get the hang of it, its alright... I still havent gone past the usual 2 pages I visit.

The quoting process is A LOT better than SCC. You go to one of the company's websites that you have discounts with, find a part number, and send it in to SCP. About a day later, they send you a quote, and you can choose to accept or deny it. I got my AEM FPR 25-303 for 160, instead of the usual 180, so if I can make my $94.00 back at least, I'll be happy.

Unfortunately, the aftermarket for my car is so small, that the only parts I found for it were (surprisingly) Adjustable Cam Gears and a Carbon Fiber hood. I will be getting the discount on them, and I will report how big it is.

So far, I think this is a great idea for someone who is starting with a stock honda and wants to do A LOT of simple mods to it within the course of a year. You will make your 94.00 back, and then some. Otherwise, dont waste your money... for now. I'll report back with anything else I can find.

Thanks, the partial sponsorship with Unleashed Autosports is the one I like. I get parts at their cost, and free labor, as long as I have their stickers (which i personally chose out size and color) on my car, and keep the customers at their shop (no duh). Sweet deal for me, and I usually give out discounts to most people that I refer.

But the SCP thing is just a test run to see how much it potentially offers. Its only a $20 discount for the FPR, but its at least something, right?

Vendor Part # . | Description....................................... .... | Qty | Advertised Price | Member Cost
NOPI 186+0633 | Unorthodox Racing Adjustable Cam Gears | 1... | $617.50............ | $524.99

--
Savings = $92.51
--

Hmm... Welp, I bought the FPR, and got charged a $15 S&H fee, which is cool, because Im sure I would have gotten charged about 10-15 anyway from anywhere else. Along with these savings?!? I cant find UR cam gears for under 750 anywhere else for my car, so its worth it to me. I made my money back, and a little bit over with just two parts, so I guess its worth the $94.00 set up fee... if youre willing to gamble like this.

They have a certain list of companies that you can go to, such as nopi, extreme dimensions, options auto salon, etc, and buy parts from. What happens, is if you give them the part number, they pay for a certain percentage (your sponsorship discount), and you pay the rest. They pay up to 5000 per year for the lowest sponsorship, and up to $50,000, i think, for the highest.

There is, unfortunately, no way of getting around that $94.00 fee.

what's the URL? I'm considering paying the $94.00 but not until I know all of the companies that could possibly sponsor you. This site sounds like they're the middle men for online aftermarket stores and customers. The stores pay a fee to get customers and customers pay a fee to get a discount. It sounds like a different type of advertising to me....good or bad...I haven't decided yet???

HKS, Nopi, GReddy, Apexi, Bomex, AEM, PIAA, ACT, 5Zigen, Skunk2, Blitz, DC, Tien, NX, MSD, Injen, etc.

A lot of companies are under it. My immediate sponsors were JL Audio, Nopi, Options Auto Salon, Extreme Dimensions, and Turbokits, along with some others.

I saw a lot of wrx parts in some of the websites i went to, especially nopi. I guess if youre about to do some extreme upgrading to your car, its worth it.

The url is www.teamscp1.com

Tell me what youre going to do.

Getting a discount is not a sponsorship in any way. Especially if you had to pay for the sponsorship.

Let me ask all of you a question.

Why would any company want to sponsor you?

respond in a mature matter and i will tell you why it doesnt make any sense.

from what i remember full sponsorship is every thing is free.
qausi-sponsorship is where they give you a discount.
^don't know if spelled this right

you pay the fee so that a person, will try to get you one of these (2) types of sponsorship.

you have to earn , the full-sponsorship.
if they like how you represent them then they will give you a full sponsorship.

I just went on the website. I'm not feeling it at all. Like I said...it's more like paid advertising rather than a sponsorship. They use the word "sponsorship" as a marketing tool to sell their business. I get parts from PSO at discounted prices and they never asked me for a $94 dollar surcharge

A company sponsors a person because they believe that the person will market their product in a beneficial manner that would result in a larger amount of positive publicity and business, which would yield higher profits.

As Ive said earlier, this is just to see what they offer, and how promising it really is. I have a lot of friends who have pretty much stock cars, and would like start building them, but dont have the money. I found this to be useful for people with stock Hondas and other cars with HUGE aftermarkets behind them, so that they can save at least a little money, but for cars like a VR4, 300zx TT, or RX7, its not worth it. Like I said, as long as I make that $94.00 in discounts over what I would pay at the regular sites I buy from, I would be happy.

Also, I am sponsored by a local shop in houston, and get free labor and some parts wholesale cost.

I also turned down a contract from Mistubishi for a 3 year, 10 person group sponsorship, worth 1.2million dollars because I knew it would get in the way of school.
