USDM L's get 250 in the GT and Spec B. As you know the JDM motors, even though they're 2.0, are much better in every way, than the USDM. I would take a 2.0 JDM STI over a USDM 2.5!!!
Automatic...well you got Subaru there. Why in the hell would they do a automatic in any STI is beyond me but I guess they're trying to attract the old fart generation LOL

Sad part is... the Spec B is getting to be pretty primative technology. I don't know if I agree with your "better in every way" like, at all. From what I have seen, the heads on the 2.5L are a little more reliable and a little better design. I know they're neat 2.0ls but the horsepower output at stock is not very impressive. And this is a heavier car than the 300hp impreza STi (which has no innate mechanical flaws.. no, not even 2nd gear), ao why the sam hell would they put an STi badge on it? Seems like an LGT without options and with a near equal-stock horsepower engine.
I don't really care, tho. I can't afford one anyway. |

Spec C and S204 are in a different league than a usdm sti. With fully forged internals, better flowing heads, better gear ratios, 8k rpm limit...etc etc the Spec C and s204 is much more apeticing than a USDM STI IMO. I break it down like this:
RACE: Stock JDM>Stock USDM sti's RACE: built USDM>S204/SC DD: USDM>JDM

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I've got very little experience with the JDM 2.0 L (early 2000's not sure of model codes, I was only helping a re-seal project, and again with a few component replacements: 2 different cars with swaps) and both of those cars dropped valves. Granted they were run into the ground, but I've never heard of a US STi doing anything but having a leaky oil filter; and that's a customer-caused flaw. I know you can crank more horsepower out of the JDM because of the materials and manufacturing techniques; hell, I'm a mechanical engineering student with a manufacturing internship this summer... that's what I do. I'm talking about engineering design and longevity. Gear ratios and port and polish are things you can easily do aftermarket, as are rev limits and fuel maps (albeit, I've only tuned motorcycles at this point in my life).
I'm just disappointed with the 260 hp number. That's all I'm saying; JDM 2.0 has potential, but why tune it down so much for a heavier car??? |

true true. I hear the only difference, when comparing the spec b and usdm sti, are the heads. if your coming out a spec edition why not make it better than the standard impreza sti. the other strange thing is why would the sti model have more HP than the spec b. I was always under the impression that the spec models are suppose to be more advance than the sti models.
on a brighter note I hear the spec b isn't going to be a limited production vehicle anymore...I hope this the start of more high end models coming to america. I hope subaru is reading this ![]()
