Default Remote problem

My friend has a '97 cavi and the remote has stopped working. She replaced the battery and still nothing. Is there a way to reprogram it?? If not is there a place where she can get a new one? Also she says there is no interior trunk release. Is it just hidden in some odd place??

Well either the release is aside of the fuel door release or glove compartement should have a yellow button.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Programming Procedure

Module Mounting And Wiring

All Remote Keyless Entry Modules (receivers) may be programmed to receive four different transmitters which all may be used to operate the remote control lock system on the vehicle. Also, several vehicles, each with the same system may all be programmed to operate from the same transmitter or four different transmitters.

During the programming of the Remote Keyless Entry Module, feedback is provided by the receiver by cycling the door locks. To program a Remote Keyless Entry Module (receiver):

Turn ignition off.
Ground the program pin.
Within 1 second, Lock, Unlock and Trunk will cycle to indicate module ready for programming.
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons until:
Lock, Unlock, Trunk, and Horn cycles to indicate the transmitter has successfully been programmed.
No more than 12 seconds.
Repeat step 3 for the remaining transmitters.
Remove the ground from the program pin.
Verify proper operation of the transmitters.
Do not leave the door lock key (oval head) in the vehicle while programming the Remote Keyless Entry Module. This will avoid unintentional lock out if the programming procedure is not properly performed.

All vehicles with the Remote Keyless Entry option will have the Remote Keyless Entry Module "matched" to the transmitter at the assembly plant. The above procedure is used by service to replace lost transmitters or to program a second transmitter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Transmitters will need to be resynchronized any time the batteries are removed / replaced or the transmitter is pressed greater than 250 times outside the range of the receiver.

Resynchronization does not send the mathematical formula to the receiver, it simply verifies the previously programmed mathematical formula in the transmitter.
Resynchronization only works if the transmitter is already programmed. To resynchronize the transmitter:

Depress the "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" button on the transmitter simultaneously for 5 seconds.
The receiver will acknowledge resynchronization by cycling unlock and then lock.

If you didnt notice he said she. And dont go bashing on someone just because of the car they drive. As far as I know you got your vehicle out of a junk yard and should die soon since it was made before most of us were born.

the trunk release would be next to the drivers seat or on the dash below the steering wheel most early 3rd gen cavaliers didnt have trunk releases other than the key

On Hyundais its on the door under the handle. As for the remote pressing the Lock+Unlock at the same time for 7 seconds or until it honks to signal its programmed should work.
