You need good friends to keep you busy and will keep you away from smoking. And the most important thing is to not buy a pack of cigarettes. That's it. You'll feel anxious, irritated and nervous but it's temporary. After your transition period you'll feel better, breathe easier, get over colds in days not weeks, be calmer...etc. The benefits of quiting outweighs the need to smoke. Definately do it.

Ok... first of all, quitting in the environment you are in right now will be more detramental than good... because as soon as you return to your normal environment (not on leave anymore) and are around other soldiers that smoke the temptation of being around other smokers will lead you a stray... Here is how I did it...you must start your quit cycle while you are in that environment... here is how. the key to quitting is exactly how TTREX said... dont buy another pack... that means the only way to smoke would be to bum one off your other buddies on base... which is ok for a while, but soon becomes irritating to them, and if you have any self pride, will make you feel bad because the last thing anyone wants to be is a bum. Use that self pride in conjunction with your resolve to keep from buying a pack, and before too long, the temptation to smoke will be beat down by the the mental battle you are waging between pride, temptation and resolve. Addiction is a psycological thing, and is much harder to overcome than physical dependance, which begins to break after 48 hours of your last ciggarette. Once you beat the psycological addiction to the act of smoking, you will be free of their hold on you... so free in fact that you may even be able to smoke another ciggarette socially months later without breaking your resolve not to buy more. That is how I quit... and still to this day, I am able to smoke one with friends (when offered) and then go home from work and not even think about a ciggarette. That is when you know you have won the battle.

3 months ago my wife got a treadmill and after just one week of running i quit smoking because my lungs where trying to get desintoxicated ( thats what everyone say ), and i get dizzy, my stomach hurts and i just feel weak, i guess is the fear to feel like that that made me stop.
so maybe if you try any active sports its going to make you quit
good luck quitting

How many times maybe I have asked this question to myself " How do I quit smoking"? I have come across so many places who have their say to get rid of this habit but nothing seems to be working for me. I did try to refrain myself from buying the cigarette packs and what I got as a result was a bad headache and I could not concentrate to any other thing other than the cigarette pack. Well maybe some would call this as a side effect of quiting all of a sudden but if I have to compromise with the same then I also got to sacrifice my office work which I can never! So is there any way out for me?
