Although the first generation Neon used a factory stereo layout that looks to be DIN sized, in fact you will need a stereo install kit. This kit should come with mounting plates and a backing plate to fill up the surrounding space around your aftermarket stereo.

If your aftermarket stereo has a removable face like the one shown above, or a tilt down face make sure your install kit has the proper spacing. If your Dodge Neon stereo isn’t mounted correctly, the features may not work as well as you want them to.

You can access the Dodge Neon car audio wiring by removing the shifter base and the bottom of the center console.

Second Generation Neon Stereo Wiring Schematic – 1999-2005

The next generation of Dodge Neon featured a redesign of the interior and dash. While the changes made the center console and stereo more easily accessible, you will still need an install kit. Where as the first generation Neon radio install kit had plastic backing, the second generation should also include stereo mounting brackets.

The later model Dodge Neon made it slightly easier to remove your stereo. The center console face can be pulled out and removed, giving you access to the Neon radio mounting bolts.

This makes installing your Dodge Neon radio install kit easy. Again if your radio has special features like a removable face or tilt down screen, you must install the backing and mounting brackets properly.

  1. Your wire is correct but an ahole cut out all of my factory plugs and i cant wire back in my dash speakers and everyone leaves out the dash speakers

    • Hi Ryan, thanks for reading and commenting on our Dodge Neon wiring guide. This Neon stereo guide can help you rewire from the unit backwards, but if someone cut out the factory wiring that will definitely prove much more difficult. Sorry to hear about that.

  2. The stereo I bought dont have a wire for the dimmer switch is this a big deal or should I just seal it off with electric tape? Thank you!

    • Hi Brandi! Thanks for reading!

No you won’t need to tap into the dimmer switch, and yes! taping off the Neon stereo dimmer switch wire will get the job done! Thanks for commenting!
