How To Replace a G35 Transmission Mount

There can be a lot of reasons why it’s good to know how to replace a G35 transmission mount. Whether you are replacing your worn or blown out one, or upgrading to a aftermarket transmission mount, this DIY article shows you how to replace your mount easily.

Upgrading your transmission mount can be a great way to add stiffness and response to your Infiniti G35. Polyurethane engine mounts can also be upgraded but can also transfer too much unwanted vibration and feedback into the cabin. If this is something that you’re not especially keen on, you can always opt for just upgrading your Infiniti G35 transmission mount.

Today we’ll be showing you how to replace a G35 transmission mount in a 2005 Infiniti G35. Before you being our How To, make sure to take the proper steps to raise the front of your vehicle and secure it safely. Take a look at our safety guide if you want to double check your safety measures.

To begin our How To Replace a G35 transmission mount and your vehicle in the air and secured safely, use a jackstand to support your transmission. Make sure you make up as much slack as possible so that you do not stress your front engine mounts. If you have a second automotive jack, raise your transmission slightly to help you do this.

Now remove your Infiniti G35 transmission cross member by undoing these gold bolts shown here. There’s four 14mm bolts total and do not remove them one at a time but rather back them out evenly to ensure nothing will fall. Not to sound like a broken record here, but make sure to take the proper safety measures in place to prevent injury should something slip.

Once you are sure that the transmission is not going anywhere despite the transmission cross member removed, go ahead and remove the bolts and the middle bolt that runs through the bottom of your transmission cross member. This middle bolt can prove difficult with your stock exhaust system in the way. If you have replacement exhaust gaskets, you can opt to remove your Y pipe and replace your VQ35 exhaust gaskets.

With this middle bolt removed, the G35 cross member can slide down and off the car. If you have a polyurethane insert for this transmission mount, now is the time to press it into your existing G35 bushing.

Inserts like this can be a great upgrade if you already have a blown bushing and need to replace it with a stock one.

To replace your transmission mount completely, you will need to remove the 12mm bolts that hold it to the transmission. Loosen these bolts to remove and replace your Infiniti G35 transmission mount.

Now with these bolts removed, you can install the new transmission mount and re-install your crossmember. Make sure to torque the 12mm bolts to the transmission to spec, because the housing is aluminum do not overtighten or crossthread these bolts. You now know how to replace a G35 transmission mount and should be enjoying a rattle free or upgraded experience while driving your Infiniti G35.
