How To Install Honda Civic Foglights

Fog lights can help during adverse weather conditions, and coupled with your headlights can provide safety in any driving environment. Whether you are shopping for some eggs or taking a turn with your hair on fire, it’s important to see where you are going. When you want to learn how to Install Honda Civic Foglights, this is the guide for you.

Today we’ll be installing a set of DNA fog lights for a 1996-1998 Honda Civic EX, part number FL-HD1960AB.

Begin by opening your box and inspecting your components for install, there should be 2 foglights in this kit the wiring looms for both units and the remote switch.

There are two sets of harnesses, one for the inside of the car which has a plug in adapter to your fusebox and the exterior harness which goes directly to the battery. These two harnesses connect together to finalize the installation of your fog lights.

There should be 2 sets of brackets, as shown below to help mount your Honda Civic Fog Lights to your front bumper.

Install Honda Civic Foglights – Mounting

The two brackets to the left signify the top brackets that are meant to mount to the top of your front bumper opening that we’ll be showing you later. The two brackets to the right are meant to hold or fasten the top part of your foglight in place so that it doesn’t slide out of it’s designed grooves.

Here is the front bumper opening in question, you will notice the two top holes that are on the back of the front bumper. These are where the left brackets will mount and screw into, and hold the top and side of your Honda Civic foglight.

Here you’ll see the top 2 hole showing the 2 top mount holes and the circle on the bottom is showing you the groove in which the bottom of your foglight will slide into.

Here’s a look at the front of the bumper, showing you what needs to be cut away for you to fit your foglight housing.

**TIP : Cut away slowly and try to leave material that will assist the bumper in holding the foglight in securely. Although cutting straight is important for fitment, the black section of the bumper can be used to hold your fog light in place

Take your top brackets and test fit them to your foglight, you will see in the picture above where the top bracket mounts and bolts to the side of your foglight.

Test fit your DNA foglight in one of the openings, and once you are sure you have enough material removed from the front bumper, you can now screw in the top bracket.

Once you are comfortable with the amount of material removed and proper spacing, you can now screw in the top bracket to top of your front bumper opening.

Once you have the top bracket screwed in nice and tight, go ahead and slide the foglight through the front of your bumper making sure the bottom tabs slide into your front bumper.

The orange circled brackets on the foglights shown above slide into the bottom of your front bumper, make sure you have a firm contact here as to prevent your foglights from moving.

Install Honda Civic Foglights Wiring

Now with both foglights installed and mounted to your front bumper, go ahead and ziptie the Y harness that connects to two foglights to the inside of your front bumper. Connect the two foglights and run the harness into your cabin using the freeze plug near your throttle cable.

Inside our Civic DX you will see this panel here which is meant for factory fog lights, power window control and much more. As this vehicle was not equipped with such creature comforts, we’ve got a blank slate to work from.

Undo the screw located on the top of this panel to begin removal.

Next undo the screw located at the bottom near your more than likely broken hood tab, undo this screw and there’s just one left.

Once you have this last screw removed, you can pull up and away to expose the lower steering column on your Honda Civic.

You should see your interior fusebox located under your lower steering column cover, you can plug your interior harness into any of these open fuse locations to tap switched power.

We also like to tee the ground wire on this specific location, which will require just one M10x1.25 bolt to secure your groundstrap wire.

After you have your power wire and ground wire properly installed inside your cabin, go and connect the power wire on the outside loom directly to your battery and ground the external wire harness.

Now you will need to pop out one panel in your lower steering column cover, take your pick of the position you want the button at.

From here, you must simply connect the inside harness and the outer harness and you are done! Reinstall the lower steering cover and tighten down everything inside the front bumper and inside your cabin.
